In his general lecture, Pudji also conveyed about the 2023 Agricultural Census which will be a big celebration of BPS next year.
The Agricultural Census has been conducted by BPS since 1963. The 2023 Agricultural Census is the seventh.
The basis for implementing ST2023 is the FAO's recommendation and the mandate of Law no. 16 of 1997, every 10 years every year ending in 3.
The objectives and benefits of ST2023 include providing a comprehensive picture of the condition of agriculture in Indonesia to the smallest areas, as well as improving the quality of agricultural statistics, namely as a sample framework for agricultural surveys and as a benchmark for existing agricultural statistics.
In addition, ST2023 also aims to improve the quality of policy designs, namely as a reference in formulating strategic policies for the agricultural sector. Among other things, the basis for the preparation of an effective and efficient distribution of subsidized fertilizers, as well as the provision of a database for MSMEs in the agricultural sector.
The variables needed for completeness of agricultural data are growing very dynamically. The Agricultural Census must be able to answer data needs at the national and global levels. This refers to the FAO program known as WCA (World Program for the Census of Agriculture).
The 2023 Agricultural Census covers two important issues, namely basic data on national agriculture and smallholders. The basic national agricultural data is complemented by data that can answer the latest strategic issues in agriculture, such as urban farming, social forestry, and millennial farmers.
In addition, ST2023 also covers another equally important issue, namely smallholders. The new data that will be obtained from ST2023 are agricultural SDGs indicators, small scale food producers according to FAO standards, and agricultural geospatial statistics.
Let's make the 2023 agricultural census a success. The agricultural census records Indonesian agriculture for food sovereignty and farmers' welfare.
