The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded a decline in rice production of 2 126 tons in Tanjung Jabung Barat Regency from production of 32 097 tons in 2020 to 29 970 tons in 2021.
Rice production is calculated by multiplying harvested area with rice productivity per hectare obtained from a tile survey conducted by BPS.
The Tile Survey conducted by BPS aims to obtain the value of rice productivity per hectare.
Meanwhile, the harvested area was obtained from the Area Sample Framework Survey (KSA) by observing the sub-segment points according to the rice growth phase.
Observations were made using android-based technology.
By involving the role of the latest technology, it is hoped that the rice production data collected will be more accurate, fast and timely.
To optimally support data needs, a change in the tile data collection mode was made, which previously used a questionnaire or the PAPI (Pencil and Paper Interviewing) method to the CAPI (Computer Personal Interviewing) method using an Android cellphone.
The Tile Survey is conducted throughout the year which is divided into three subrounds, namely subround 1 (January-April), subround 2 (May-August), and Subround 3 (September-December).
The first step in the implementation of the tiles is to determine the plot of rice fields at the KSA observation point that is already in the harvest phase.
After that, calculate the usual steps in the West-East and North-South directions to determine the point to be tiled.
After the point is determined, it is continued by pairing a tiling tool with a size of 2.5 m x 2.5 m and harvesting rice in the plot.
The last step is weighing clean rice that has been cleaned of dirt and discarding empty rice.
In order to control the quality of rice tile data, the Head of BPS for Tanjung Jabung Barat Regency, Wasi Riyanto, S.ST, ME and the team supervised the implementation of tiling in Sinyerang District on July 21, 2022.
From the results of the tiling carried out on that day, the yield was 2.1 kg from a plot area of 2.5 m x 2.5 m which if we convert it around 3.36 tons/ha. Information from farmers that the decline in productivity is caused by the attack of rats in the area.
