Changes in Expectations for Work After the Covid-19 Pandemic

Changes in Expectations for Work After the Covid-19 Pandemic

September 25, 2022 | Other Activities

According to the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) work is an activity of doing work with the intention of earning income or profit for at least one hour in the last week.

Work for one hour must be done in succession and not interrupted.

Based on the latest data released by the Jambi Province BPS, the Open Unemployment Rate (TPT) in February 2022 was 4.70 percent, down 0.06 percentage points compared to February 2021.

There are 85.77 thousand people affected by Covid-19 or 0.03 percent.

The majority of the population affected by Covid-19 experienced a reduction in working hours by 73.48 thousand people.

In America, the pandemic has caused disruption to the workforce, in 2021 the term "The Great Resignation" appears because that year as many as 47 million workers quit their jobs, many of whom are looking for work life balance and flexibility in the world of work. better, increased wages and a good corporate culture.

However, if we take a closer look at what is happening in the workforce, this phenomenon is described as the great reshuffle as the hiring rate has exceeded the quit rate since November 2020.

During the pandemic, many workers are forced to work from home, whether it's taking turns working from home with other workers, or transitioning to working from home entirely.

During the pandemic, many people took advantage of telemedicine facilities to obtain health services remotely by utilizing technology.

Indeed, not all services can be carried out remotely, some still need direct medical treatment at a hospital or other health facility.

Some workers who were used to doing their work from home or remotely began to feel comfortable and realized that even without being in the office they could still be productive at work.

In 2022, the number of Covid cases has dropped dramatically, the community vaccination rate for the second dose has reached 72.79 percent and people are starting to re-crowd public spaces such as malls, tourist attractions, and airports.

Our country's economy is slowly recovering, this is also supported by data on Indonesia's economic growth in the second quarter of 2022 against the second quarter of 2021 which grew by 5.44 percent (y-on-y).

Slowly all the restrictions that occurred during the pandemic on work began to return to normal, many workers were required to start returning to the office in full to fulfill their work obligations.

This is considered quite difficult for workers who are used to and comfortable doing their work from home.

Many workers hope to continue working remotely.

In America Gallop found that 91 percent of US workers wished they could continue working a few hours from home, and three in ten workers signaled that they would look for a new job if they were called back into the office.

It would be interesting if there were researchers who wanted to conduct a survey like Gallop in the Indonesian Territory. Are you interested? (Jambi data/)
