On Thursday (18/7) morning, Dwi Jayanti, Young Expert Statistician as Head of the Price Statistics Team of BPS Jambi Province, attended the Jambi Morning Dialogue on RRI Pro 1 88.5 FM. The dialogue entitled “Synergy in Controlling Inflation in Jambi Province” also invited the Head of BI Representative, Warsono, Head of the Bureau of Economy and Natural Resources, Johansyah, and Economic Expert/Director of Postgraduate Studies at Jambi University, Prof. Dr. H. Haryadi, SE., MMS.
In the dialogue hosted by Tatik Wijaya, Dwi explained that inflation is essentially a condition of the development of commodity prices for goods and services. Rice and red chilies have a large weight in calculating inflation. “Even a little price increase, then the potential for inflation is quite large,” explained Dwi. Dwi also explained that several administered price commodities also have a large influence on calculating inflation, such as electricity, gasoline, and cigarette rates, where these commodities cannot be intervened by the local government.
Warsono explained that BI's synergy with local governments and various parties through the TPID (Regional Inflation Control Team) is the key to successfully controlling inflation. "BPS's function is only as a quality data support, not part of the TPID, in order to maintain BPS's independence," explained Warsono.
Meanwhile, Prof. Haryadi said that inflation is not something to be afraid of. "If it is beyond normal limits, then inflation will have a negative impact. Therefore, inflation must be controlled," explained Haryadi. He also explained that price increases are an incentive for the production of goods and services.
Through a telephone call, Johansyah said that the government has made various efforts to control inflation, but it needs strengthening from the upstream sector. "Currently, a land inventory has been carried out for the Eternal Horticulture program. This is an effort to strengthen food security in the regions to control long-term inflation," explained Johansyah.
