Calculating the Full River City Unemployment Rate Through Sakernas August 2022

The Central Bureau of Statistics for the City of Sungai Penuh has begun to carry out the National Labor Force Survey (Sakernas) in August 2022 to map employment conditions in the City of Sungai Penuh. Sakernas is a strategic survey of BPS that will produce indicators such as: open unemployment rate, labor force participation rate, business fields of the working population, and other employment indicators. This data collection was conducted as a sample on 440 selected households. To ensure the quality of the data produced, Sakernas officers are first selected and trained. The training aims to enable officers to understand the concepts and definitions used in this survey. A total of 15 officers will conduct interviews on selected households.

“Based on the survey results in August last year, the population working in Sungai Penuh City is 43,052 people, the majority of whom work in the service sector. Meanwhile, the unemployed are 1,331 people or 2.99 percent of the workforce. The unemployed population is 39.90 percent with tertiary education, 13.29 percent with high school education or equivalent, 15.18 percent with junior high school education or equivalent, and 31.63 percent with elementary school education and below," said Kuswan Gunanto, Head of BPS Kota Sungai Penuh. “The open unemployment rate in 2021 is better than in 2020 which was 5.55%. This indicates that the economy is improving after the Covid-19 pandemic. However, there is still some homework for policy makers, especially regarding the high number of educated unemployment in Sungai Penuh City," he added. "We advise the people of Sungai Penuh City who were selected to be the sample for Sakernas in August 2022, to accept the arrival of survey officers," he concluded.
