President Joko Widodo on several occasions in his speeches often conveys the importance of data. “I often call the Head of BPS directly to ask directly about the data. Data is 'the new oil', even more valuable than oil," he said when giving a speech on the socialization of the 2020 Population Census, as quoted by Kompas, January 24 2020. The President's attention and focus on the data was also supported by the issuance of Presidential Regulation Number 39 of 2019 concerning One Indonesian Data. One Indonesian Data (SDI) coordinated by the Ministry of National Development Planning/Development Planning Agency (Ministry of PPN/Bappenas) focuses on governance of government data. Through One Data Indonesia, it is hoped that a government data management system will be created to create quality data, easily accessible, and can be shared between agencies, both central and regional agencies. Currently, the types of data included in One Data Indonesia include statistical data with the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) as the data supervisor, geospatial data with the Geospatial Information Agency (BIG) as the data supervisor, and financial data with the Ministry of Finance as the data supervisor. The main challenge faced by data developers today is how to provide an understanding of the importance of data in every implementation of government policies. There is still an opinion from some circles that building data governance is just a waste of money. In fact, state development without being based on structured data management will actually spend a larger budget. Planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of government policies will lose its way without standardized and quality data.
Many efforts have been made by the Central Statistics Agency as a builder of statistical data in order to bring people in the regions closer to statistical data. As done by BPS Batanghari Regency. Through its leader, Hartono, BPS Batanghari Regency seeks to be actively involved in socializing and developing statistics to Regional Apparatus Organizations (OPD) within the Batanghari Regency Government. As on Tuesday (12/7/2022), Hartono attended a meeting to discuss the draft Regent's Regulation on One Indonesian Data in Batang Hari Regency. Recently, Wednesday (27/7/2022), Hartono and his team had the opportunity to meet with the Regent of Batanghari, Muhammad Fadhil Arief, in order to build more intense communication, coordination, and collaboration between BPS Batanghari Regency and the Batanghari Regency Government. Through these efforts, it is hoped that this can be a good first step towards higher quality SDI in Batanghari Regency.
