BPS Jambi Province held a major activity, namely a public lecture and the inauguration of the Statistics Corner at the University of Jambi (Unja), Wednesday (24/8/2022). This activity was carried out at the Unja University Hall Building, Mendalo, with the theme "Strengthening Statistical Literacy for the Academic Community". Attending this activity were Dr. Pudji Ismartini M.App.Stat as Director of the BPS RI Statistical Information System, Rector of Jambi University Prof. Drs H Sutrisno M.Sc, Ph.D, Head of Jambi Province BPS Agus Sudibyo M.Stat, Chancellors of Universities in Jambi or his representatives, invited guests, and more than 500 Unja students who seemed so enthusiastic to attend this event. The inauguration of the Statistical Corner began with the pressing of the inauguration button jointly by the Director of SIS accompanied by the Head of BPS Jambi Province and the Chancellor of Unja. Followed by the signing of the inauguration charter and inauguration of the Unja Statistics Agency. The event was even more lively when a branding video of the Statistical Corner and Virtual Statistics Corner (POSITIV) of the Jambi Province BPS was played, as well as a photo session with invitees and students. In his general lecture, Pudji said that the Statistical Corner made access to data and statistical services quick and easy, as well as providing an understanding of data to the academic community. To expand service access, the statistics corner can be accessed online through the Virtual Statistical Corner (POSITIV), which is one of the innovations of the Jambi Province BPS.
Pudji conveyed, according to the President's speech at the MPR Annual Session and Joint Session of the DPR and DPD, August 16, 2021 which reads "In making decisions, the government must continue to refer to data, as well as to the latest science and technology". So it looks so important statistical data in development. Data plays a role in planning, implementing, evaluating, and controlling development. The modernization of statistical data collection today is the use of big data as a new data source. Some of the challenges in developing big data as a new data source are data acquisition and access, methodology and principles of official statistics, as well as HR and infrastructure capabilities. Pudji said that BPS had utilized big data in producing official statistics. These include Mobile Positioning Data (MPD), tourism statistics, population mobility statistics, and metropolitan area delineation (MSA). Utilization of satellite imagery in agricultural statistics geospatial, poverty mapping, and economic activity, and so on.
Hopefully in the future the facilities, facilities and infrastructure, as well as the function of the Statistical Corner will continue to be improved to suit the needs of visitors or data users. In addition to launching the Statistical Corner, on this occasion the inauguration of statistical agents was also carried out. Statistical agents are expected to be the driving force for the dissemination of statistical data at Unja in particular, as well as the Jambi community and visitors to the Unja Statistics Corner in general. In addition, Pudji also conveyed the spirit of the 2023 Agricultural Census (ST2023) to the participants. With the presence of the Statistical Corner at Jambi University, it is hoped that it will become a means of improving public services that will be useful for lecturers/students to access statistical data and information more easily, cheaply and quickly, both printed data and digital data, as well as build statistical literacy. in order to participate in educating the nation.
