Public Lecture on Optimizing BPS Secondary Data in Economic Research

The University of Jambi held a public lecture on the theme of Optimizing BPS Secondary Data in Economic Research with resource person Sumarmi M.Si from BPS Jambi Province (26/10). Present at the public lecture were the Vice Dean for Student Affairs Dr. Sigit Indra Wijaya M.Si, Head of the Master of Economics Study Program Dr. Erni Achmad M.Si, and Head of the Department of Economics Dr. Rafiki, M.A. Sigit said in his speech that processing secondary data is very important for academics.

BPS has a vital role in providing secondary data. BPS secondary data used by students and lecturers can be in the form of macro or micro data. So valid data is needed to produce research that is useful for policy.

The problem of data users usually lies in how to understand and interpret secondary data. Therefore, this public lecture was held to provide enlightenment and proper understanding of BPS secondary data to academics. If lecturers and students already understand the insight of secondary data, research will be more efficient, speed up writing, and enrich references.

Therefore, Sumarmi presented material on secondary data and several important indicators owned by BPS, including economic growth, Human Development Index (HDI), poverty and unemployment rate.

The hope is that in the future, students can use BPS secondary data to accelerate proposal submission and seminars. Hopefully, this meeting will motivate students to complete their theses.
