Waiting for the Demographic Bonus of Jambi Province

Waiting for the Demographic Bonus of Jambi Province

August 3, 2022 | Other Activities

Demographic bonus is the potential for economic growth due to the large population of productive age (15-64 years) compared to the elderly population and children. Experts who support the concept of demographic bonus argue that the more productive age groups, the more economic activity of a country will increase. This is due to the large opportunity for the productive age group to work or start a business as a driving force for the family economy. Interim Projection Results 2022: 69 percent of Jambi's people are of productive age. According to the release of interim 2022 projection data by the Central Statistics Agency, the population of Jambi Province is 2,511,443 people, or 69.16 percent of the total population of Jambi Province. This means that only about 31 percent of the elderly population and children are dependents of the productive age group. In fact, this non-productive percentage could be smaller because some of the elderly population are also able to be independent, such as lecturers, professors, retirees, and other elderly people who have their own businesses.

The high productive age group illustrates that Jambi's human capital is more than sufficient to revive an economy that was sluggish due to the Covid-19 outbreak.

How is the quality of Jambi's human resources?

In addition to quantity, it is also necessary to look at the quality of its human resources, whether they meet the requirements to enter the job market. earlier (71.29). As a measure of quality of life, HDI is built through a basic three-dimensional approach. These dimensions include a long and healthy life, level of knowledge, and a decent life. To measure the health dimension, life expectancy at birth is used. Furthermore, for the knowledge dimension, a combination of indicators of expected length of school and average length of school is used. As for measuring the dimensions of decent living, indicators of people's purchasing power are used for a number of basic needs seen from the average amount of expenditure per capita. The economy in general in Jambi Province will soon rise along with the incessant efforts to overcome the pandemic carried out by the government. This optimism grows because Jambi's human capital is quite good, accompanied by a large number of productive age population who are ready to enter the labor market.
