Tanjung Jabung Barat Regency is known as one of the centers for the shrimp paste industry in Jambi Province, whose production affects the growth of the Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) of Jambi Province. Every year, the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) conducts a Special Survey for the Study of Preparation of Inventory Changes (SKSPPI). This activity aims to calculate changes in inventory. Changes in inventory are very important to calculate because changes in inventory are one component of GRDP from the expenditure side. For this reason, BPS Tanjung Jabung Barat conducted data collection on the home-based shrimp paste industry as one of the SKSPPI samples. Also attending the data collection was the Jambi Province Nerwilis Function Coordinator, Dr. Ir. Kusriatmi MP as supervisor. Ibu Jamilah, one of the SKSPPI respondents who has been making shrimp paste for decades, said that the shrimp paste made always comes from really fresh shrimp from the fishermen. Mrs. Jamilah also explained that the shrimp paste that is made does not use any machine and is without preservatives. In addition, this product is often a favorite souvenir of Kuala Tungkal. The terasi products that are sold are not branded and are sold in kilos according to customer requests. The obstacles faced by Mrs. Jamilah as a shrimp paste maker are the availability of shrimp and the weather. Shrimp is one of the seasonal marine products that are rarely found at high tide. In addition, the weather which is often cloudy makes the shrimp not dry quickly, thus hampering the process of making shrimp paste. Mrs. Jamilah hopes that the supply of raw materials can always be available, so that they can continue to produce shrimp paste.
