Cost of Living Survey For 2022 Base Year Weigh Charts

The Cost of Living Survey (SBH) 2022 is a survey of household consumption expenditures in urban areas (urban areas) and rural areas (rural areas) to produce public consumption patterns as material for the preparation of weighing charts and new commodity packages in calculating the Consumer Price Index (CPI).

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) is one of the strategic data of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) which is needed as a basis for determining government policies.

The percentage change in the CPI or better known as the inflation/deflation rate is an important economic indicator whose data quality needs to be improved from time to time. Currently, the CPI is calculated based on the 2018 SBH, which is the 7th survey since it was first conducted.

The development of information technology, changes in people's incomes, changes in the pattern of supply and demand for goods/services, developments in the types and quality of goods/services, as well as changes in people's tastes and behavior can change people's consumption patterns. This change resulted in the commodity basket and the weighing chart of the 2018 SBH results no longer suitable to describe the current situation accurately. The up-to-date SBH weighing chart can be used to adjust the base year after a shock/crisis/pandemic.

The implementation of the 2022 SBH in Jambi City uses an independent sample of households every quarter during 2022 with a total sample of 160 census blocks and a total sample of 1,600 households spread across 11 sub-districts within Jambi City. In this data collection, BPS Kota Jambi involves BPS external officers who we call the Statistical Partners.

This statistical partner is what we train as a provision to go out into the field to collect data from house to house, then households record non-food consumption expenditures every month.
