Shelter is a basic need for all people. By having their own place to live, people will get guaranteed safe shelter in the long term.
In addition, home ownership is also an indicator that shows the level of welfare and standard of living of the community.
The higher the percentage of the population who owns their own house, the better the standard of living of the community will be.
However, at this time not all levels of society have their own place to live.
The same condition also occurs in Sungai Penuh City. The Head of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) for Sungai Penuh City, Kuswan Gunanto, said that 21.65 percent of households in Sungai Penuh City do not occupy their own houses.
The rapid rate of population growth (in 2021 by 0.9% ) and the limited residential land in Sungai Penuh City have caused house prices to skyrocket from time to time.
Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani at the 2022 Securitization Summit. “12.75 million backlogs, it means that those who are queuing need a house.
Moreover, Indonesia's demographics are still relatively young, meaning that this young generation will then have a household, then they need a house.
But they cannot afford to get a house because their purchasing power is higher than the price of their house, so they are finally enough by either staying at their parents-in-law's house or renting it.
This condition is certainly not immediately felt within one or two years, but in the era of economic recovery like now, of course, it can cut the long-term cycle faster.
Based on the results of the National Socio-Economic Survey (Susenas), in the last five years the percentage of households occupying their own homes is in the range of 71.30% to 78.35%.
There was a decrease in 2021 compared to 2020, from 78.35% to 76.45%.
This means that in 2021 21.65% of households do not occupy their own houses.
If we look more deeply, 9.45% of households occupy contracted or rented houses, and 13.86% live in other people's houses or relatives.
Judging from the economic capacity of the household, the 40 percent of households with the lowest expenditures occupy the smallest percentage in owning their own house, which is 70.95% in 2021, a significant decrease from 78.33% in 2020.
Economic conditions that have not yet recovered due to the pandemic are one of the factors for the decline, especially for people with low economies.
As a basic human need, of course, people must continue to strive to be able to get a place to live.
Renting a house or renting a house is a medium or even short term solution, especially if you are just staying at a relative's house.
Demands for economic recovery will further spur people to find decent housing. This demand will also be faced by the next generation to compete for residential ownership.
