The Agricultural Census will be held again by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) in 2023. Held every 10 years, the 2023 Agricultural Census (ST) is the 7th Agricultural Census conducted by BPS since it was first implemented in 1963. In general, ST2023 aims to obtain complete and accurate agricultural statistical data in order to obtain a clear picture of agriculture in Indonesia and to obtain a sample frame for the agricultural sector used for sampling agricultural surveys over the next 10 years. Given the importance of this ST2023 activity, BPS has made various preparations, one of which is the ST2023 Geospatial Framework and Contents Update activity. This activity consists of 2 (two) stages, namely the field implementation stage and the processing stage.
The field implementation phase itself was completed last March. The activity currently underway is the processing of the geospatial framework.
The output generated from this activity will be in the form of a Wilkerstat ST2023 Map, as well as a Land Cover Geospatial Framework.
Wilkerstat is the statistical working area for census and survey activities conducted by BPS1.
The Wilkerstat map includes maps of provinces, districts, sub-districts, villages, Census Blocks (BS), and Smallest Environmental Units (SLS).
In the Wilkerstat ST2023 Geospatial Framework Update, the map boundaries updated by BPS are the SLS boundaries and village and sub-district boundaries. oil palm plantations, built up land, dry land forest, and wetland forest. In processing this map, BPS uses geospatial technology with the use of satellite imagery.
Satellite imagery is a picture of the earth's surface as a result of satellite recordings in outer space, hundreds of kilometers from the earth's surface. SLS boundary update on Wilkerstat ST2023 using Qgis software by utilizing the coordinates (geotagging) of the SLS boundary taken by officers during fieldwork and combined with satellite imagery from Google (Goolge Hybrid) and Spacemap Lapan.
In addition to geotagging the SLS boundary, field officers also took coordinates in the land cover sample area.
The land cover geotagging information is then processed with satellite imagery with medium spatial resolution with a wide swath called Sentinel-2.
Processing of land cover geotagging with Sentinel-2 produces spectral band values. The spectral data is processed using Machine Learning to obtain a map of the geospatial framework of agricultural land cover.
The update of Wilkerstat ST2023 with the use of Satellite Imagery is an effort by BPS to provide a high-quality and up-to-date Geospatial Framework.
With the availability of the Wilkerstat ST2023 layout map based on satellite imagery, it is hoped that census officers will more easily recognize the boundaries of their working areas.
Thus, the possibility of missed census data collection or double enumeration will be very small.
