Abstract

  • The number of poor people (residents with per capita expenditure per month below the Poverty Line) in Jambi Province in September 2019 reached 273.37 thousand people (7.51 percent), decreased by 950 people compared to the poor population in March 2019 which amounted to 274 32 thousand people (7.60 percent).
  • The percentage of poor people in urban areas in March 2019 was 9.81 percent down to 9.75 percent in September 2019. While the percentage of poor people in rural areas in March 2019 was 6.53 percent down to 6.44 percent in September 2019.
  • During the March-September 2019 period, the number of poor people in urban areas rose by 80 people from 115.08 thousand people in March 2019 to 115.16 thousand people in September 2019, while in rural areas it fell by 1,040 people, from 159.24 thousand people in March 2019 to 158.20 thousand people in September 2019.
  • The role of food commodities towards the Poverty Line is far greater than the role of non-food commodities (housing, clothing, education, and health) both in urban and rural areas. The contribution of the Food Poverty Line to the Poverty Line in urban areas in September 2019 was recorded at 74.21 percent, while in rural areas it was much higher at 77.96 percent.
  • Food commodities that have a major influence on the value of the Poverty Line in urban areas are relatively the same as in rural areas, including rice, filter clove cigarettes, broiler chicken eggs, broiler eggs, red chillies, onions, granulated sugar, instant noodles and wet cakes. Meanwhile, non-food commodities include the cost of housing, gasoline, electricity, education, toiletries, water, adult women's clothing, and children's clothing.
  • In the period March-September 2019, the Poverty Depth Index (P1) and the Poverty Severity Index (P2) showed a decrease. This indicates that the average expenditure of the poor tends to get closer to the Poverty Line and the disparity in expenditure among the poor is also getting smaller.
