Overworked Behind the Quiet Quitting Trend

Overworked Behind the Quiet Quitting Trend

September 14, 2022 | Other Activities

Quiet Quitting, a phenomenon that is being widely discussed. This term is a trend among young people, namely working moderately and not doing additional work outside of working hours and outside the main task force.

It seems lazy or a little selfish. However, in addition to maintaining physical health, this is also a form of way to maintain mental health by prioritizing the principle of work-life balance.

Quoted from the publication of the Jambi Province Labor Market Indicators August 2021 (BPS Jambi Province), working hours are directly related to the balance between personal and work life.

Excessive working hours can interfere with personal life and relationships with family.

In addition, the decline in worker productivity is the result of excessive working hours.

Based on the recommendations of the International Labor Organization (ILO), the maximum normal working hours is 48 hours a week.

In Jambi Province, there are 19.74 percent of the population who work more than 48 hours a week based on the results of the August 2021 National Labor Force Survey (Sakernas). National Work (Sakernas) August 2021. It can be illustrated, almost 2 people out of 10 residents work with working hours exceeding the maximum normal working hours.

When viewed by gender, there are 21.44% of the male population working more than 48 hours a week in 2021.

This means that about 21 to 22 people out of 100 male residents work more than the maximum normal working hours.

Meanwhile, the female population who works more than 48 hours a week is 16.72%, which means around 16 to 17 people out of 100 female residents who work more than the maximum normal working hours.

When viewed by district/city, Jambi City is ranked first with the percentage of the population working with excess working hours of 26.91%.

Then, followed by Sarolangun Regency at 23.77%, and Sungai Penuh City at 23.09%.

Meanwhile, Kerinci Regency occupies the last position with the percentage of the population working more than 48 hours a week, which is 12.65% in 2021.

Given that the Quiet Quitting phenomenon is currently on the rise, will this reduce the percentage of the population who work excessive hours significantly in Jambi Province this year? And will this affect the Jambi Province happiness index, related to mental health which is one of the reasons for this phenomenon? To answer these questions, further studies and analysis are needed.
